Day 61 & Day 62
Name: Al Muhyi & Al Mumeet
“And that it is He who causes death and gives life…” [53:44]
Al Muhyi refers to Allah’s charachteristic of being the giver of life. As we speak, there is probably someone in the world who is giving birth, a new being starting this journey right now.
And Al-Mumeet refers to Allah’s characteristic of being the causer of death, and as we speak there is also probably someone out there in the world whose journey has come to an end, who is departing lonely and by themselves on to the next trip- to the grave and then towards Judgment day.
Life and Death, just like that. We weren’t meant to stay, we weren’t created to stay. Allah gave us life, to see who will stay on the fitrah, who will keep turning back to him or who will be amongst those that fail to acknowledge their purpose of creation. Allah gives death, an end to our lives, because we can’t have forever. If we could have forever, then what would be the point? Like Allah says, to each one we gave an appointed time.
Both in the characteristics of life and death are innumerable secrets that we as humans, we in an age of scientific discoveries and “revolutionary” thoughts still can’t figure out. There is so much unknown about death, there is so much unknown about life. This characteristic of giving life and giving death only belong to Allah because no other human, no other person or thing can give life or give death.
We belong to Allah and to Allah we return. This phrase is often said when someone departs from this world. But do we really understand it? When you let someone borrow something, and then ask for it back, its not right if the person starts claiming the borrowed thing as their own right? Like if you let someone borrow your car for the day cause they really need it, and the next day you ask for it back but they completely deny you and say that the car was theirs, you’d be upset right? We would be freaked out, angry. This is kind of how death is. We are Allah’s creation, we have an appointed time here, Allah blessed us with an appointed time here and so if he takes any one of us back to him, we shouldn’t be throwing tantrums and wailing and etc because after all, we BELONG to Allah and to Allah we RETURN. Allah is the one who chooses to give life and Allah is the one who gives death after an appointed time.
Allahu Akbar.
